Pompoota Levee

Description:

Pompoota Levee is located between Murray Bridge and Mannum on the East side of the river. This levee bank is approximately 5km long. Damaged has been caused to this levee bank during a recent flood even which cause the levee bank to breach in 2 spots and also have some of the batters washed away making the levee bank unsafe. Spry Civil Construction (Principal Contractor) has been engaged by DIT on behalf of DEW to undertake the repairs to this levee and get it back up to a safe complaint standard.

Works Undertaken:

Stage 1:

•          Dig out breached areas to sub level and prepare base to rebuild the levee bank onto.
•          Import Clay from Morgans Quarry Brinkley to use to rebuild the levee bank.
•          Levee bank breaches to be built up and compacted in max 250mm layers and compaction testing required on each layer.
•          Rip Rap rock protection to be laid over breached area once reconstructed.
•          Height of levee bank to be 2.65RL
•          Access to breach one will be via Farmers paddock, a stockpile of clay will be created in the farmers paddock then carted in 9t dump trucks across the paddock to levee bank.
•          Access to breach will be along levee (as this is close to an entrance way) Clay will be delivered direct to breach in either semis or tandems.

Stage 2:

•          Reconstruct the top the levee bank and batters for the full 5km.
•          Minimum width of levee bank at top to be 3.5m.
•          Washed out batters to be keyed in, clay added and compaction wheeled with excavator to achieve width of 3.5m
•          Height of levee bank to be 2.65RL, top up of any low spots to achieve the nominated RL.
•          100mm of Morgans PM2/20 to be laid over the top of entire levee above the 2.65RL height.
