Description:

The Imperial Netball Club Inc. successfully secured a Play Our Way Grant, to support a major court refurbishment project - including significant upgrades to the club’s facilities to meet Netball Australia standards. The program is designed to remove barriers to women playing sport, reduce discrimination and promote equality.

The initiative, valued at approximately $750,000, is fully funded through grant funding from the Australian Government and the club’s own contribution. The funds were used to:

  •          Upgrade of all three netball surfaces including run off to meet National standards
  •          Repositioning of light poles and upgraded lighting.
  •          Provision of adequate spectator and official’s shelter for protection from extreme weather.
  •          Relocation and upgrade of spectator seating and grandstands.

Works Undertaken:

  •          Secure site with temporary fence,
  •          Identification and location of underground services,
  •          Disconnection of services under the future extent of new courts,
  •          Removal of existing light towers and fencing,
  •          Removal of existing retaining walls,
  •          Profile existing courts 240mm deep,
  •          Install 2 layers of 100mm thick rubble,
  •          Install asphalt surface, AC7, 30mm thick,
  •          Build new retaining wall,
  •          Build new stormwater infrastructure, including strip drains,
  •          Concrete Footpath


Project Update – 11 April 2025

Site preparations commenced for the court refurbishment project. The perimeter fencing has been upgraded and light poles have been removed.

Council decommissioned the existing public toilets at Johnstone Park, adjacent to the courts to facilitate this project.

 

Project Update – 12 May 2025

Significant progress has been made on the renewal of our court surfaces.

Construction is underway to stabilise and improve the underground material. A subbase of 100 mm has been laid to form a critical foundation for the new pavement.

In addition, the retaining wall around Court 3 has been completed and excavation for the strip drain along Courts 1 and 2 has been finalised.

 

Project Update – 2 June 2025

Considerable progress has been made with the installation of fence posts and mesh fencing set to go up soon. Concrete strip drain, footpath and drainage works are now complete, while shelter and electrical works are currently underway.

 

Project Update – 12 June 2025

Works are progressing well on site, with several key milestones reached. Bitumen has now been laid across all three courts, marking a significant step forward in the redevelopment. Light towers have been installed and structural works for the new shelter are currently underway and progressing as scheduled.
